Prologue

Right, well here we are, Amanda and Rob, two weeks before we leave Germany and five weeks away from taking off from Heathrow on the first leg of our trip around the world.

We thought we would be all modern and trendy and set up a blog for this trip. The plan is to post on to this website at regular intervals during our time away to keep a record of our travels and to reassure our parents that we are still in one piece and haven’t been eaten by koala bears or anything. As we travel through some areas, updates may become a little more sporadic depending on the availability of computers and internet cafes. At the end of the day, one of the reasons we are doing this is to get away from sitting in front of a computer every day, so don’t expect updates every day!

We’ll also be posting photos on flickr.com – there is a link to this from this website.

The rough route, which having explained approximately 3483 times already, and can now recite in our sleep, is as follows:

London – Washington – Dallas – Las Vegas (Grand Canyon, visit Yogi Bear in Jellystone Park etc.) – LA – Guatemala – Belize – Honduras – Nicaragua – Costa Rica – LA (again) – Tahiti – Cook Islands – New Zealand – Australia – Singapore – overland through Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos to Beijing – Frankfurt – London

Should take about a year we reckon. We’ve had our jabs, moved our worldly possessions back to the UK, sold the car and are ready and raring to go. Amanda just has to work out how to pack everything she needs in one rucksack (and go without a hairdryer for the year) and I have to work out how I am going to keep track of the magnitude of Bristol Rovers defeats as we go along.

We look forward to seeing some of our friends and family flung all over the world as we go along. We promise to at least try and shower the day before we arrive. We’ll see some of you in the couple of weeks we have in England too.

So, next update will be from somewhere in the US.

Adios
